iPod Troubleshooting

SuperSync includes a method of getting music, video, and playlists from your iPod, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and iPhone

Requirements

First, you'll need SuperSync running. If you're planning to synchronize playlists, you should already have your Local Library set up as an iTunes library. (Use the File: Local Library Info to verify that the library type is set to iTunes.) If you just want to copy the files to a hard drive, the library type can be set to "Disk".

Import Music from an iPod

1. First, choose "Connect to iPod or Phone" from the Remote menu.

2. A progress dialog will come up asking you to Plug in your iPod/iPhone via USB.

3. At this point, you should be able to plug in your iPod and have it found. If it does not show up, try repeating steps 1 and 2.

4. For SuperSync to be able to connect to older iPods, the iPod must be plugged in and recognized as a removable disk volume. If it associates with iTunes or you tell it not to associate with iTunes, the volume may be unmounted and become unavailable to SuperSync.

5. Once your iPod is found the tracks should load.

6. Tracks that are blue are on your iPod, tracks that are gray are in your local library, and tracks that are green are in both libraries. Click on the "Remote Unsynchronized" filter in the left hand side to see all blue unsynchronized tracks.

7. You should now be able to synchronize the tracks on your iPod (blue) and copy them to your local library. When they are copied, they will turn green.

8. You should be able to synchronize playlists as well, by selecting the blue playlists and right-clicking Synchronize Playlist(s)

9. When you are finished, be sure to close the iPod/iPhone remote library using the SuperSync Remote menu and select Close Remote Library.

10. After closing the Remote (iPod) library, any new files you requested to add will be added to iTunes.

Command Line Access

You can test your iTunes connection using a tool inside the SuperSync application. This should not be needed, but if you are getting errors connecting to a iPhone/iPad/ or iPod Touch, this can help us resolve the issue.

Windows Users: Open the Windows command prompt (cmd) and type: "C:\Program Files\SuperSync\lib\supersync_iphone.exe"

Mac Users: Open Terminal.app and type: /Applications/SuperSync.app/Contents/Resources/Java/lib/supersync_iphone

If you get an error, please let us know..

Type the following commands:

debug

connect

status

quit

If you get an error, let us know by copying and pasting the error in a message to us. You can use the contact form or the SuperSync "Contact us" form from the Tools menu.

New: 6/29/10 - a new version of supersync_iphone.exe is available for Windows users. Download and save to one of the following locations, depending on if you have 32 or 64 bit Windows:

C:\Program Files\SuperSync\lib\supersync_iphone.exe (32bit windows)

C:\Program Files (x86)\SuperSync\lib\supersync_iphone.exe (64bit Windows)

(Of course, if you have windows running on a directory other than C:\, install it wherever your Program Files\SuperSync\ directory is.)

Getting Additional Help

If you get errors importing your iTunes library, please let the developers know. Please send a message to supersync at gmail.com. Include the file called last_ipod_db.dat located in the SuperSync settings directory. You can open the settings directory from SuperSync using Open Settings Directory from the Tools menu.

If you are still having problems, please let us know which of the steps you've gotten to work, and which ones aren't working, and which steps you have not tried.

An ideal help request is: Steps 1 through 4 seem to work, but, I don't see any blue tracks for step 5. Attached is my last_ipod_db.dat file. ! If we find a bug in our iPod code, we'll work on a fix and keep you posted of any beta versions available.
